The summer bank holiday is nearly upon us. Many people will be eagerly anticipating the long weekend, whether it’s to spend time with friends and family, jet-off on holiday or just catch up on life admin (let’s hope that’s not the case).
This bank holiday falls on Monday 26 August and offers us the chance to make the most of what warm weather is left!
But if you’re stuck for inspiration on how to spend that glorious extra day off work, we’ve come up with 5 summery ideas to help.
1. Nottinghill Carnival (it’s FREE)
Every year, London sets aside its weekend for one of the world’s largest street carnivals! Get ready for a two-day celebration of Caribbean heritage that attracts one million attendees with costume-clad dancers, musical performances and street vendors selling foods like jerk chicken, callaloo and traditional goat stew.

3. Trip to the Beach
The bank holiday is the perfect time to kick back and relax and if you’re dreaming of escaping to coastal views, the great news is that you may not have to venture very far. The UK is home to some amazing beaches, and if you’re lucky with the weather then it’s just like being abroad. Some of our favourites include Porthcurno Bay which is located in the far west of Cornwall, Woolacombe seaside resort in North Devon and Whitby beach in North Yorkshire.
4. Day at the Zoo
Are you a fan of animals? If so, Longleat is the place to go for all things animal related (The number 1 Safari Park in the UK!). See the lions, feed the deer and take a selfie with a penguin. You can take the whole family along with you. Did you know that Longleat even have their own accommodation? If you wanted to extend your stay for the whole weekend you can choose from boutique 4* spa hotels to the historic inn.
5. Edinburgh Fringe Festival
Featuring a programme of more than 53,000 performances, the Fringe Festival is one of the largest art festivals in the world! There’s something for everyone with shows ranging from theatre to comedy, opera to circus acts. The festival spans through August so don’t worry too much if you can’t make it for the bank holiday!
