Hull City of Culture Upcoming Events Part 2

The Hull City of Culture event has been supplying jaw-dropping experiences, bold artwork, and intriguing installations to visitors from all across the country, and the well of creativity certainly hasn’t run dry. There are plenty of great upcoming events on the horizon for you to add to your calendar, and here are just a few of the one’s we’re looking forward to most.

Carnivalesque: The Mark Wigan Art Show

Carnivalesque: The Mark Wigan Art Show kicked off on June 17th and will be running on weekends right through to the December 30th. Wigan is one of the most celebrated English contemporary visual artists, boasting an international influence and the acknowledged position as a central pioneer of urban art across the globe.

Carnivalesque: The Mark Wigan Art Show has collected together paintings, prints, and unseen drawings from his own personal archive, which goes back over 50 years’ worth of material. His work is defined by a mixture of mediums, including video, photography, literature, sculpture, drawing, painting, public art, and performance, with research exploring the evolving role of the artist in the post digital landscape.

You’ll find Carnivalesque: The Mark Wigan Art Show at the Museum of Club Culture. Tickets are free.

50 Queers for 50 Years Workshop

Running in Hull City Centre across select dates from June 30th to July 21st, the 50 Queers for 50 Years Workshop is set to be a wonderfully fun way to express LBGTQ pride. All you need to do is drop in for a free session on any date to help put together placards celebrating some of the top 50 British LGBTQ icons. From Freddie Mercury to Clare Balding to Dusty Springfield, numerous stars will be embodied in this huge collaborative project.

If you want to see your handiwork, make sure you visit the Pride in Hull parade on July 22nd . Come to workshops on Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm to 7pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 5pm. It’s free!

Hull Film Festival: My Life as a Courgette

A film by Claude Barras, My Life as a Courgette tracks the story of the eponymous hero after the death of his mother. Filled with joy, sorrow, and laughter in equal measures, it’s set to be a popular film event for the whole family. Certified PG and running for 66 minutes the film will be shown at 6.30pm on July 1st at Vue Cinema Hull. Pick up a family pass for £22 or snag a child’s ticket for £5 if they’re conveniently under 14.
