JC-Leisure’s Top Ten Family Festivals 2014

When you think of Summer festivals, one of the first things that may spring to mind, as well as (hopefully) sunshine and music is of course alcohol, late night partying and generally letting your hair down…
However! Festivals can of course be places for families too – and you may not have even realized how many great family festivals there are here in the UK.
That’s why we’ve tracked down some of the best family festivals coming up at the end of July and throughout August so that you can take your family for a Summer holiday experience they’ll never forget…

Deer Shed Festival (25th to 27th July)

Deer Shed, located in Baldersby Park in North Yorkshire is a family friendly music, arts & science festival with an all round great atmosphere. Live music includes performances from Johnny Marr, British Sea Power and Stornaway as well as activities suited for adults and children alike and all integrated with this years theme – TIME TRAVEL!

Camp Bestival (31st July to 3rd August)

This “4-day family festi-holiday” is based is located in Dorset in a castle campsite by the sea! Not only jam-packed with activities to suit children of all ages (2 to 62 in fact!) but there will be live acts from Basement Jaxx, Sinead O’Conner and James to name a few.

Standon Calling (1st to 3rd August)

Standon Calling is of course based in Standon, Hertfordshire and boasts performances from Public Enemy, Frank Turner and Maximo Park. Standon Calling caters extremely well for families with plenty of kids activities and the fancy dress theme – this years? Latin America! But what do families like most about Standon? The swimming pool of course!

Lakefest (8th to 10th August)

This years Lakefest will see headliners in Buzzcocks, Shed7 and the Fun Lovin’ Criminals. With a range of Circus-style activities and workshops taking place you’ll be able to find something for children of all ages. Based in Croft Farm Waterpark in Gloucestershire, there are also a number of  watersports on offer!

Green Man Festival (14th to 17th August)

This Welsh festival has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere set in the lush scenery of the Brecon Beacon countryside. You’ll be able to hang out in the designated family camping spots, take part in a range of workshops and activities as well as listen to a diverse range of live music from artists such as Mercury Rev and The Waterboys.

Just So Festival (15th to 17th August)

The ultimate in family entertainment, Just So Festival has wonderful circus acts, street theatre, arts & crafts and musical acts that will get the whole family dancing. Located at Rode Hall in Cheshire, Just So even has the Peekaboo area, which runs a series of special workshops and attractions specifically for babies.

Towersey Village Festival (21st to 25th August)

The Towersey Village Festival is a well established little folk festival near Thame in Oxfordshire. You are able to pay at the gates for a small fee, or you can opt for a full day or weekend ticket with camping. Either way there are plenty of fantastic attractions for children. However, opting to a day or weekend ticket will give you access to the full range of amazing children’s activities on offer at the special Children’s Festival!

End of the Road Festival (29th to 31st August)

With headlining acts including The Flaming Lips and Wild Beasts, this years End of the Road is sure to be an exciting one. However, this years End of the Road is set to be particularly family friendly with a dedicated children and family areas. Set in stunning the stunning woodlands of Larmer Tree Gardens in Dorset, you’re likely to see a few peacocks and exotic macaws roaming around the grounds too.
